Into the Sky
On the 19th July 2022, the hottest ever day on record, when a record temperature of 40.3°C (104.5°F) was recorded and verified by the Met Office in England, photographer Andy Lo Pò, took a trip down to the beach in his adopted home town of Brighton and captured his own unique recording of how that day was celebrated by the city’s local populace, and that project became ‘Into The Sky’. “I made these constructed images to amplify and focus our attention on these everyday people. They were jumping, falling, dropping, turning, twisting and somersaulting into the sea… they were having a fucking great time! By removing certain elements within the frame, I wanted to elevate them to angelic status for the very brief time they were in the air. By removing all other distractions, we are just left to analyse them as solo portraits of ordinary people floating, frozen in the sky.

On the Road (+ Rails + Waves)
– At a charging point in Northern Spain.
– Our electric van, once compared to an orthopaedic show, becomes our home for days on end.
– We’ve now been on many ferry crossings across the Bay of Biscay. Sometimes these journeys take 48 hours.
– Our trips are our happiest times. On these never-ending journeys, in our family bubble, we find space, boredom, happiness, time.
Our life is exhausting. But we make the best of it and its a happy one. Being on the move is how we manage best. Anything for that moment, sleeping in the sun with the sand in your hair.

“I am documentary photographer and filmmaker. With a background in reportage, investigative and creative photography and filmmaking, my work has taken me across the UK and the world. I’ve worked on a whole range of projects, both documentary and commercial, with a particular interest in those that focus on society, environment, women, human rights, migration and supply chains. I’ve spent almost 20 years trying to find different ways of telling stories with images and words to spread interest in these areas. A number of my films have had a direct impact on policy change – something I’m really proud of. More recently, I’ve had the opportunity to focus more on photography and it’s a joy. “
